WHO WANTS TO DO SOME WORK!
What is work? Everyone knows what work is right?  Well not this kind of work.  Work is done when a force causes an object to move in the same direction of that force.  There are different types of work and even a way to measure it.  Effort is when you can be doing so much and trying so hard to do something but you still might not always be doing work.  You can be putting effort into moving boxes from place to place.  However once you started moving forward with the box the force was still moving up and the motion was going forward.  Remember about what newtons measure in, well work also measure in Joules.

To understand how to find out if your doing work is to use the formula- W=FD which is work= force times the distance. When you find your answer you have found out what the Joule(s) of that object is. Well what's a Joule you ask?  A Joule measures how much work you have done.  If I were to push a box in a direction, then that would be work because I'm the force pushing on that box and were going in the same direction.(or positive work)  If I was pushing the box and using force and the box wasn't moving then you would not be doing work.(or negative work)  For you to be doing work you and the box has to be moving in the same direction.  Thanks for reading, now I've got my own work to do.

ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE

Archimedes was not just a mathematician, he was also an inventor, and a engineer.  He was born in  Syracuse,Sicily and lived in the year 250 B.C ( about 2,260 years ago).  One day a craftsman made a crown for the king and Archimedes didn't think that the crown was real.  Archimedes used what he called  Archimedes Principle and found the density of the metal in the crown.  He also found out that when you put something in the water the water would rise or displace, this is called displacement.  When he got in the bath he found out that his body was lighter in the water and he jumped out of his bath running and yelling Eureka ( Which is the Greek word for "I have found it").

He also created great things in his life which some of us like today.  Archimedes created what he called "Block and Tackle" which meant that he could move things without having any trouble.  He created the screw pump which meant he could move water from a low place to a high place without trouble also.   Archimedes used what he called the sand reckoner and he used that to calculate the number of grains of sand there were in the world (kinda weird right).  He invented war machines to help protect his city and he thought that his inventions were the best inventions every created.

Buoyancy and Density, Good or Bad?

An object will sink or float by its density and buoyancy.  If an object can float then the buoyancy of that object is positive.  If the object sinks then buoyancy is negative, and if the object neither sinks or floats then it's neutral.  If you were on a ship you would need to know the buoyancy of the water so you dont sink or go to slow.  If you compare a lake and rock the molecules in the rock are closer together than in the lake so the rock would sink.  To find an objects density you divide the objects mass by the volume.  Density is the physical property of matter and is in everything.  If I was in the pool I would just be standing there with some of my body in the water, but if I was less dense I would float and not ever be able to swim ( bad I know).  When you push a liquid away thats called displacement.  The dead sea has a lot of salt and because of the salt we can float without trying and we can also eat it.

Gravity is the thing that pulls all of us to the earth.  If I were to jump I would fall right back down because of gravity.  Also, when I push people ( Lizzy, Azaira) on the swings outside they go up becausee of force and come back down because of gravity.  To me I sometimes say we don't need gravity and we would be better off without it.  We could do anything and life would much easier.  If we didn't have gravity then the earth would not orbit the sun. Then life on earth would be different.
A few weeks ago Tyler walked in front of Shelby while she was swing and he said "Hit me with your best shot" then Shelby couldnt stop herself so she hit Tyler and he went flying.  Gravity pulled him down towards the center of the earth.
